Brown visits Afghanistan troops amid defence row

Gordon Brown has visited British troops in Afghanistan as a row grows over his evidence to the Iraq Inquiry.

During his visit he promised more resources to support the troops including new military vehicles to replace the controversial Snatch Land Rovers.

But the Conservatives say it is a cynical attempt to divert attention from his evidence to the Chilcott inquiry and criticisms that as chancellor he denied pleas to send more equipment to Iraq.
