Iraq funding documents released

Documents obtained by the BBC World Service show that at the start of the Iraq war in 2003, when Gordon Brown announced a special reserve of £3bn for the military in Iraq, his officials had estimated that the combat operations and subsequent occupation of Iraq might reach £5bn.

They also predicted a further £1bn costs in humanitarian and reconstruction expenditures. The heavily redacted documents released under the Freedom of Information Act were first requested sixteen months ago.
