Heavy snow causes transport chaos across UK

Heavy snow, which has swept across central and southern England, has caused major disruption to road, rail and air travel.

Gatwick Airport is closed until 0830 GMT and flights have been disrupted at airports across the country.

Drivers have faced severe conditions on the roads as these pictures show on the M40 in High Wycombe and at junction 5 of the M27 between Portsmouth and Southampton, where drivers abandoned cars.
