Red squirrels go under spotlight

Red squirrels are to find themselves in the spotlight with the installation of four cameras in a Cumbria forest.

Live pictures of the elusive squirrels can now be seen on a large screen at the Forestry Commission's Whinlatter Forest visitors' centre.

The UK's red squirrel population is under constant threat from the deadly squirrel pox, which is carried by the grey variety of the species.

The "squirrelcams" will be officially unveiled on 10 October.

Squirrel Week runs from 12 October during which people are asked to report sightings of the creatures.
