Snowboarder dies after Alps fall
The Swiss Alps
The snowboarder died on the Swiss-Italian border in the Alps
A British snowboarder has died after falling into a crevasse in the Alps, Swiss police say.

The 33-year-old woman fell as she skied at high altitude down a glacier on the Swiss-Italian border.

Police in the Valais area said the woman fell 15 metres into the crevasse at 3,060 metres above sea level.

They said she was among a group of seven people who had been dropped off by helicopter for the descent after travelling from Italy.

A helicopter rescue team arrived soon after the fall but the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police added that the group had been accompanied by a French guide. The woman's identity has not been released.
