Actor Daniel Baldwin is being treated in hospital after his car crashed on a busy Los Angeles street.

The 45-year-old suffered back and neck injuries after his Ford Thunderbird, seen by police travelling at more than 80 mph (128 kph), hit two parked cars.

Police said he could be charged with reckless driving when he recovers.

Jason Lee, spokesman for Los Angeles police, said: "The Thunderbird pushed one of the vehicles about 20 feet - and that was a Hummer."

"The officer tried to catch up to the Thunderbird, lost sight of it momentarily and came up to a traffic collision where the T-bird had crashed into two parked vehicles," Mr Lee said.

There were no other injuries reported and Baldwin's female passenger, who was not identified by police, was not charged.

The actor was not thought to be seriously hurt, but police said he would be detained on suspicion of reckless driving and driving with a suspended licence.

Baldwin, who has appeared in television series including Homicide: Life on the Street, is a member of an acting family that also includes brothers Alec, Stephen and William Baldwin.
