Sheene diagnosed with cancer
Sheene suffered dozens of injuries in his career
Motorcycle legend Barry Sheene has been diagnosed with throat cancer.
Sheene learned he had the disease in July, and is undergoing treatment as an outpatient.
The 51-year-old now lives on Australia's Gold Coast with his wife and two children and says he has no plans to return to his native UK.
Motorcycle News reported he was in good spirits and had vowed to fight the illness which he described as a "total pain". The sportsman won the 500cc World Motorcycle Championships twice in the 1970's. Sheene was famous for the battering his body took during his career. At one stage he had metal plates in both knees, 28 screws in his legs and a bolt in his left wrist.
