Lennon's German lovechild

The former Beatle John Lennon fathered an illegitimate German daughter, it has been claimed.

BBC Radio Merseyside has seen a birth certificate of the unidentified woman who was born in Hamburg in Germany in October 1965.

The BBC's Richard Turner reports on the German woman's claims
The birth certificate seen by the local radio station shows the father's name as 'John Winston Lennon' and his occupation as 'Musiker' or musician.

John Lennon's uncle, 80-year-old Charlie Lennon, says he is convinced the woman is the daughter of the star.

"She seems to feel, though she hasn't got the name of Lennon, that I am some sort of great-uncle or grandfather.

"When she leaves here she says, 'Give us a kiss uncle Charlie' - I'm her uncle Charlie, no messing"

Fitting the facts

BBC Radio Merseyside talks to "Uncle" Charlie Lennon
The 32-year-old woman moved to Liverpool four years ago and now studies art at a local college.

She claims to have been told the identity of her father at the age of 12 and says many of her friends know she is the star's lovechild.

The woman wants to keep her identity under wraps to protect her mother, who still lives in Germany, and she is adamant she does not want to become known as the illegitimate daughter of John Lennon.

Many of the band's early gigs were played in Hamburg during the early and mid-60s.

Charlie Lennon, who still lives in Liverpool, backed up the woman's recollections of visits from the Beatle in her early years.

"She reckons she does remember him a little - but it is very little. She has no recollection of him as a Beatle."

The report follows recent claims by another woman that she is Lennon's long-lost half-sister.
