Bonetti unveiled as new Dundee boss
![]() Ivano Bonetti played at the very top of the Italian game
Dundee have unveiled Italian Ivano Bonetti as their new manager.
The former Sampdoria and Torino star has signed a three-year contract, with his older brother Dario acting as his assistant at Dens Park. The Bonettis will formally assume control on 10 July, replacing Jocky Scott, who was told by the club board earlier this week that his contract would not be renewed.
The pair are joining the Dens Park outfit from the relative obscurity of Italian club Sestresse. Neither of them has vast coaching experience but Ivano is anxious that they are taken seriously in their quest to turn Dundee into Scotland's third force alongside the Old Firm. Lack of experience Ivano said: "Questions have been raised about our lack of coaching experience and, unfortunately, some of that criticism has bordered on ridicule. "We accept that, because we are replacing a man who has worked within the Scottish game all his life. "But Dario and I have worked under a lot of successful managers within teams who have enjoyed success at the very highest level. We will be judged by what happens on the pitch.
"Success and a will to win has driven us forward all these years. Now we want to put to work at Dundee what we have learned." Another Italian, Dario Magri, will join the club as a co-ordinator, forming a link between the new management team, the playing staff and the board of directors. Bonetti used Magri as an interpreter during his time at Grimsby where he had a dramatic fall-out with manager Brian Laws, culminating in an exchange of blows. Current coaches Billy Thomson, Ray Farningham and Kenny Cameron will all remain at Dens Park, but an additional fitness coach, former Roma defender Enzo Romano, will join the backroom staff. |
