Scots step up Euro 2008 campaign
Hampden is set to host the Champions League final
The Scottish Football Association has refused to rule out a four-nation bid to host the 2008 European Championships.

The SFA met their Irish FA counterparts in midweek and came to a decision that Scotland, the Republic of Ireland, Northern Ireland and Wales should link up in a joint bid to host the tournament in eight years time.

The association's chief executive David Taylor was in Dublin for the friendly against the Republic of Ireland last Tuesday.

"When we were in Dublin in midweek, Irish officials broached the subject of the Celtic nations co-hosting the European Championships so maybe, yes, in 2008," said Taylor.

Stepping stone

"We'd have to look at the other stadia and facilities and see whether we would have sufficient facilities on our own, or need to co-host."

The SFA have already secured the rights to host the 2002 Champions League final at Hampden Park and Taylor believes that staging that particular final may be a stepping stone to hosting a larger event.

"If we make a success of staging the Champions League final, it will lead to other major opportunities and provide a possible springboard to bigger events.

"But a downside of co-hosting with so many is that all of us would probably not be guaranteed a place in the tournament."
