Children face domestic violence

About 100 incidents related to domestic abuse happen each week in the area

Each week in Tayside about 60 to 70 children experience domestic abuse or are exposed to it in their home, according to police.

Between 8 December and 18 January the force took part in a nation-wide campaign against domestic violence.

They found about 100 incidents related to domestic abuse occur in the region each week.

The force said it was "quite startling" that a number of the cases were repeat incidents at the same address.

Det Ch Insp John Caughey, the lead officer for domestic abuse in Tayside, said: "Perpetrators of domestic abuse are committing criminal acts, often within the supposedly safe environment of the family home.

"It is a completely unacceptable criminal activity, and that is the approach of Tayside Police when dealing with such incidents.

"The information is quite breathtaking and clearly demonstrates that concerted, joint action is needed to address this issue."
