Kelso Sainsbury's site sale deal agreed

The council has agreed to complete the sale to Sainsbury's

A council has agreed the sale of land at the centre of a lengthy planning battle between Sainsbury's and Tesco.

The Scottish Borders authority had sought Scottish government approval to complete the deal for the Pinnaclehill site in Kelso.

It has now been told that such consent was not needed and it can conclude the sale with preferred bidder Sainsbury's.

Council leader David Parker said he was "very pleased" the land deal could now be completed.

"I am certain this will be very welcome news for the people of Kelso, who have waited patiently for a supermarket," he said.

"I am also pleased that this development will bring a petrol filling station and new employment land to the town."
