Leisure centre opening date doubt
Works starting
Work started on the DG One leisure complex in August 2006
The opening of a flagship leisure centre in Dumfries could be facing a further construction delay.

A target date of 3 March had been set for the opening of the 17.2m DG One development.

A council statement has confirmed that works on the scheme are progressing "slower than promised".

However, it added that it was meeting daily with contractor Kier Northern to seek to ensure that the completion schedule could be achieved.

Structural works started on the scheme in August 2006.

It was first hoped the building could open by autumn the following year.

However, that date slipped to November, then December and finally the new March deadline.

It now appears that date too may be in jeopardy.

Council corporate director Les Jardine said that progress was "steady, but slower than promised".

A report will be made to councillors next week with any details which might affect the building timeline.

Mr Jardine said that "firmer information" would be available after that meeting.
