The Asda in Galashiels should be open in time for Christmas
Asda has confirmed its new 20m superstore in Galashiels should open its doors in November.

Construction is now well under way on the 70,000 sq ft development which will create around 350 full and part-time posts in the town.

The company has also started a local management recruitment programme for the new store.

Council leader David Parker said the Asda plan was "excellent news for the economy of the Scottish Borders".

He said: "The store will create some 350 full-time and part-time jobs, and represents a substantial investment in the area by Asda.

"The additional car parking spaces provided by the store's development, plus Asda's significant contribution to the road and rail infrastructure in Galashiels is warmly welcomed by Scottish Borders Council.

"It will have a lasting impact on the Borders."

James Harbison, of Asda Property, added: "We are looking forward to opening our store in Galashiels and bringing competition and lower prices to Galashiels and the Borders in time for Christmas."
