Equal pay agreement in Shetland

Shetland Islands Council has signed a collective agreement for equal pay across its workforce, it has been announced.

A uniform set of terms and conditions will be rolled out to all employees in the autumn at a cost of £4m.

There will also be a one-off payment of £5m to backdate salaries to December 2007.

The aim is to give men and women an equal salary for the same value of work for manual and office jobs.
