Aberdeen's Hogmanay street party will be insured against it being cancelled on the day.

Councillors have decided to take out the policy at a cost of 11,000, meaning the authority would be reimbursed the 300,000 cost.

Singers Amy Macdonald and Sandi Thom, and Keith Jack - a finalist in television's Any Dream Will Do contest - will star in the event.

In 2003, severe weather forced the event to be cancelled.
