A new group set up in opposition to Donald Trump's proposed 1bn golf resort in Aberdeenshire is to meet.

Sustainable Aberdeenshire, made up of existing organisations and concerned residents, will meet on Monday night to co-ordinate efforts against the plans.

The US billionaire wants to build "the world's greatest golf course" at the Menie estate, north of Aberdeen.

The development site is near to Balmedie beach, an environmentally sensitive area.

The meeting comes after Aberdeenshire councillors deferred their decision on the matter.

Council officers had recommended backing the plans, including a 450-bedroom hotel, almost 1,000 holiday homes and about 500 private houses.

The golf plans will be the focus of a public meeting later in the week.
