Islanders were involved in whaling in the southern Atlantic
A three-day conference on the history of whaling and its links to Scotland is to be held on Harris in the Outer Hebrides.

The Islands Book Trust have organised the event which will be held in Tarbert from 16 to 18 August.

Islanders were closely involved in whaling - particularly in the southern Atlantic - until the early 1960s.

Speakers will include academics and guests invited from the Faroe Islands and Norway.

One of the topics will be the ruined whaling station at Bunabhainneadar on Harris.
