Lorry destroys village footbridge

The impact destroyed a section of the bridge in Salburgh

A footbridge spanning a road in North Lanarkshire has been destroyed after being hit by a lorry.

The vehicle crashed into the bridge on Hirst Road, Salsburgh, near Shotts, on Tuesday morning.

No-one was injured in the crash but the road has been closed and local diversions have been put in place.

Staff from North Lanarkshire Council are clearing debris from the road. Police have appealed for witnesses to the crash to contact them.
