Kasabian headline Hogmanay event
Kasabian will headline the Hogmanay concert
Indie-rockers Kasabian are to headline Scotland's biggest Hogmanay celebrations, it has been announced.

The Leicestershire band, whose hits include Empire and Shoot the Runner, will appear at Edinburgh's Concert in the Gardens on New Year's Eve.

They will be supported on stage in Princes Street Gardens by Scots band Idlewild, who are currently on a Greatest Hits tour.

The Concert in the Gardens is the highlight of Edinburgh's Hogmanay.

More than 100,000 revellers will pack the city centre for a night of live music and fireworks.

Scotland is always a special place to play and New Year's Eve will be even more special. We promise
Tom Meighan

Pete Irvine, director of Edinburgh's Hogmanay producer Unique Events, said: "We're delighted we've got another strong line-up for the Concert in the Gardens.

"Although we've altered the formula a bit from previous years, there's no question the Gardens will rock."

Kasabian have appeared at a string of major music festivals this year, including Glastonbury and T in the Park.

Their last album Empire went to number one in the album charts on its release this year.

Lead singer Tom Meighan said: "It is an honour to be asked to play Hogmanay this year.

"Scotland is always a special place to play and New Year's Eve will be even more special. We promise."

The rest of the line-up for the concert and the other artists who will be performing at the Ceilidh in the Gardens and Edinburgh's Hogmanay Street Party is due to be announced in the coming days.
