A seal in an aquarium in St Andrews has been swept out to sea by the storms hitting the Fife coast.

Staff at the aquarium said an 18-year-old male seal called Hardy was washed out of his pool by a huge storm surge on Tuesday afternoon.

His female partner Laurel was also in the same pool but managed to avoid the wave, they said.

The public were urged to look out for Hardy who has never lived in the wild and does not know how to feed himself.

It is 20 years since another seal was swept away from the aquarium by rough seas.
