New Tamar lifeboat
Peterhead will have the latest lifeboat technology
The next generation of lifeboat is arriving at its new home in Peterhead.

The Tamar is described as the most technologically advanced class of lifeboat ever designed by the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI).

The 2.5m all-weather lifeboat, the first of its kind in Scotland, is due to arrive on Friday to start its service on the sea.

The RNLI said: "This lifeboat will ensure a world leading, efficient and reliable lifesaving service."

The Peterhead lifeboat crew is the first in Scotland and second in the UK to operate the Tamar class.

Paul Jennings, RNLI training divisional inspector for Scotland, said: "The introduction of a new generation lifeboat is an exciting moment for the RNLI.

"The Tamar features state-of-the-art technology, which enhances its lifesaving capabilities.

"This lifeboat will ensure the charity continues to provide a world leading, efficient and reliable lifesaving service.

"We believe it is essential to provide our volunteer crews with the best training and equipment possible."

'Revolutionary vessel'

The lifeboat has been funded by a donation from the Robertson Trust, a charity with a history of supporting the RNLI and which also paid for station's previous lifeboat.

Ian Good, chairman of the Robertson Trust, said: "The trust has supported the work of the RNLI for over 30 years.

"The trustees were delighted to extend the relationship by funding the production of this revolutionary vessel and bringing it into active service in Scotland."
