Jailhouse blues for Elvis singer
Heroin package
Police discovered the haul in Murray's car
An Elvis Presley impersonator has been jailed for four years after being caught with a heroin haul.

The High Court in Edinburgh heard how James Murray, 33, injured a female officer when he tried to drive away after police swooped on his car.

Murray was caught with the Class A drug worth an estimated £100,000.

The tribute singer, formerly of Lorne Place, in Edinburgh, had earlier admitted being concerned in the supply of the drug on 21 December last year.

He also admitted driving dangerously at excessive speed in North Junction Street, Edinburgh.

Detective Constable Fiona Harrison tried to jump out of the way but was struck by the vehicle and suffered a minor hand injury.

Judge, Lord Wheatley, told Murray: "It is clear from what I have been told that you were aware that what you were transporting may have been drugs.

'Drugs courier'

"The nature and quantity of these drugs is something that you, apparently, had no knowledge of.

"That unfortunately does not diminish the gravity of the offence. You could have been responsible for carrying twice as much."

Defence counsel Alan Muir said Murray was an entertainer and singer, who specialised in Elvis impersonations.

He allegedly borrowed money from a "businessman" who, it later transpired, wanted to use him as a drugs courier.

Mr Muir said his client was threatened and took the threats "very seriously".
