'I'm pleased to have done so well'
Serena Weir
Serena hopes to study law when she leaves school
Among the thousands of pupils in Scotland anxiously waiting for the postman was 16-year-old Serena Weir from St Patrick's High School, in Coatbridge.

She sat five Higher exams earlier this year and hopes one day to study law, either at home or abroad.

She scored four As and a B in her preliminary exams and had been hoping to match that, or do better, after completing her final papers.

On opening her mail from the Scottish Qualification Authority, Serena discovered she had scored three As and two Bs but said she still was happy with her results.

"I'm delighted with what I've got. I've worked really hard this year so I'm pleased to have done so well.

"I've still got another year at school and I'm planning on furthering my languages, French and Spanish, and also sitting a crash course in Modern Studies.

"I think out of all my results I'm happiest with an A for English. The written portion of the exam was very difficult so I'm really pleased to have done so well."

Serena's father Jim said the wait for Serena's results had been very stressful for her.

"She's been pacing up and down for weeks but now her results are finally here, I'm delighted.

"Serena has been working very hard and deserves the results she has gained. I'm really pleased for her and am glad the waiting is finally over."

Denise Burke, deputy head at Serena's school, said she too was delighted and added that the school was on hand with advice for those pupils who did not do as well as expected.
