Sun shines on Heather the wedder
Heather and Miles after their wedding on Friday
The newly married Heather and Miles Padgett
BBC Scotland meteorologist Heather Reid - known affectionately as Heather the Weather - is forecasting a bright future after marrying in Glasgow on Friday.

Heather chose a bright sunny afternoon to tie the knot with physics professor Miles Padgett at Glasgow Registrars' Office.

The happy couple looked radiant as they posed for photographs with family and friends after the ceremony.

Celebrity guests included BBC newsreader Jackie Bird.

The pair, who have been dating for three years, met when Heather gave a lecture at St Andrews University.

Christmas proposal

She has a physics degree from Edinburgh University, a masters degree in meteorology, and is also vice-chairman of the Physics Institute.

She is perhaps best known, however, as weather forecaster on BBC Scotland's flagship news programme Reporting Scotland.

She has been presenting the weather on the evening news show since 1994.

Miles, who is a professor of physics at Glasgow University, proposed on Christmas Eve.

Heather had previously admitted concern that the sun would not shine on her big day.

However, after one of the wettest summers on record, the elements looked kindly on the happy couple.
