Victor Chandler
Victor Chandler
Victor Chandler gambled on offshore betting
According to his website, Victor Chandler is the 'Gentleman bookmaker'.

Chandler took over the family business 25 years ago and has expanded it into one of the biggest bookmaking operations in the world.

All of this has been achieved, again according to his website, with "a reputation for honour and integrity". It is a reputation he trades on.

Global

Victor Chandler is the grandson of Victor Chandler senior, who founded the company in 1946.

Victor Chandler senior actually built Walthamstow Greyhound Stadium and later expanded into the bookmaking business.

But despite his hard work, the company had a chain of just 40 betting shops around the UK when his son took the reigns in 1975.

Since then, Victor has taken the firm to another level. He started by selling off the original shops and establishing the company as a global telephone and online operation.

Gibraltar

He is a private man who keeps a low profile but Victor Chandler prides himself on his good reputation.

He also changed the face of betting in this country, when he took the decision to move the company's entire account operation from London to Gibraltar.

This meant he could introduce tax-free betting to all of his customers, a move which has strengthened his position in the marketplace.
