Born in Barcelona, her career began in Los Angeles, working for the American Film Institute Film Festival.
There she performed a variety of festival administrative functions culminating in programming and fundraising for the first Los Angeles Latin American Film Festival in 1985.
Moving to London she spent eight years as Deputy Head of Programming at the National Film Theatre (NFT) and Deputy Director of The London Film Festival (LFF).
Between 1996 and 1998 she was a member of the San Sebastian (Spain) Film Festival Management Committee responsible for international programming. She has also curated for and advised many film institutions in Havana, Madrid, USA, Canada, France, Mexico.
In 1998, still based in London, she was a founding partner of the production and international sales company Tequila Gang with Guillermo del Toro, Laura Esquivel, Bertha Navarro and Alejandra Moreno Toscano. Her feature film productions credits include El Evangelio de las Maravillas (Divine), by Arturo Ripstein; Un Embrujo (Under a Spell) by Carlos Carrera; Buena Vista Social Club by Wim Wenders; Calle 54, by Fernando Trueba; El Espinazo del Diablo (The Devil's Backbone), by Guillermo del Toro; La Fiebre del Loco (Loco Fever) by Andres Wood; and Lost in la Mancha, by Keith Fulton and Louis Pepe.
Tequila Gang was also involved in the international launch and distribution of films such as Amores Perros, Sin Dejar Huella (Without a Trace), Silencio Roto (Broken Silence) and Nueve Reinas (Nine Queens) as well in the packaging and negotiation of film remake rights.
In 2003 she set up the international distribution operation for HBO Films based in London. As managing director responsibilities focused on the international strategy and launching of HBO films in cinemas and festivals. Titles handled include Reel Women Have Curves by Patricia Cardoso; My House in Umbria by Richard Loncraine; Cannes Palme d'Or and Best Director Winner, Elephant, by Gus van Sant; Sundance Grand Jury Prize Winner and Cannes FIPRESCI Winner, American Splendor, directed Shari Springer Berman & Robert Pulcini.
She has been a member of numerous international juries and awards, including the British Academy of Film and TV (BAFTA), is a member of the Industry Advisory Board of Toronto International Film Festival, and has participated regularly as a tutor in the Media Business School Programme and Eave (European Audiovisual Training). She has also written on cinema for a number of publications such as Faber & Faber Projections and The Guardian.
She is fluent in English, Spanish, French and Italian.
