Nomination: John nominated Newsnight's coverage of the fall of the Berlin Wall - presented by Peter Snow with reporter Olenka Frenkiel.

John said: "My nomination would be the first Newsnight report on the fall of the Berlin Wall.

"Peter Snow was hosting a discussion in East Germany and Olenka Frenkiel turned up in the studio carrying a chunk of wall and plonked it on the studio table - the first proof that the Wall really had started to come down.

"It was one of those really rare, truly startling, moments of live television showing history in the making - and all it really consisted of was a lump of brick, a reporter with initiative, and a presenter who let it happen."


John Morrison
John Morrison joined Newsnight from The Independent where he was features editor. Before that he worked for ITN, where he helped to set up Channel Four News.

After Newsnight he held a number of other BBC editorships, including editor TV news, and editor news and current affairs at the World Service.

He now runs a media consultancy, Morrison Media Consultants, advising major companies how to communicate better.

Newsnight is broadcast every weekday at 10:30pm on BBC Two in the UK.
