Midlands firm Wrekin Construction went into administration 2 weeks ago laying off 400 staff. The firms biggest asset was supposed to be a gem called The Star of Zanzibar. It was a ruby the size of a cricket ball valued at £11m.
But the man who had valued the ruby was an international conman, who Newsnight exposed two years ago after he tried to sell a fake cure for AIDS.
