Money Box Live: Renting and letting

Simon Gordon, John Gallagher and Marveen Smith
BBC Radio 4's Money Box Live
Wednesday, 14 April 2010 at 1502 BST on Radio 4 and Online

On Wednesday's programme Vincent Duggleby took your questions about renting and letting and put them to a panel of expert guests.

There's evidence to suggest that the private rented sector - whose profits were hit by the downturn - is beginning to pick up again.

According to the latest survey by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, more landlords are reporting a rise in rents than a fall. But the situation varies a great deal from region to region.

If you're renting, are you happy with the quality of accommodation on offer?

Do you understand tenancy agreements and tenancy deposit protection requirements?

If you are on a low income do you need advice about housing related benefits?

Perhaps you are a landlord with a query? What can you do if a tenant is in arrears?

Whatever your concern, our panel of experts were here to give you advice.

Vincent Duggleby was joined by:

• Simon Gordon, Head of Communications, National Landlords Association

• John Gallagher, principal solicitor, Shelter

• Marveen Smith, Partner, PainSmith Solicitors

Presenter: Vincent Duggleby
Producer: Lesley McAlpine
