Wills and Estate Planning: your questions

BBC Radio 4's Money Box Live
Wednesday 11 November at 1502 GMT On BBC Radio 4 and Online

On Wednesday's Money Box Live Vincent Duggleby took your questions about wills and estate planning and put them to a panel of expert guests.

Have you made a will? It's estimated that 60% of us haven't - which can lead to confusion for bereaved partners and the wider family.

This November is Will Aid month, giving people the opportunity to make their will and give to charity instead of paying the solicitor's usual fee.

The laws of inheritance are slightly different in England and Wales to those in Scotland.

The Law Commission (England and Wales) is consulting on whether unmarried people in couples - who are not in a civil partnership - could inherit more when their partner dies without leaving a will.

In Scotland people in that position have stronger rights already.

Do you have questions about how to make a will and what the costs will be?

Do you understand the inheritance laws and how they will impact on your family?

If you're co-habiting rather than married or in a civil partnership have you made provision for your loved one?

Whatever your concern, our panel of experts were here to give you advice. Vincent Duggleby was joined by:

  • Nicola Plant, partner, Thomas Eggar
  • Ian Johnson, tax partner, Grant Thornton
  • Alan Barr, partner, Brodies and director of legal practice at University of Edinburgh

Presenter: Vincent Duggleby
Producer: Lesley McAlpine
