Mortgages: Your questions

The experts: Ray Boulger, Paula John and David Hollingworth
BBC Radio 4's Money Box Live
Wednesday, 22 April 2009 at 1502 BST on Radio 4 and Online

Paul Lewis took your questions on mortgages and put them to a panel of expert guests on Wednesday's programme.

Gross mortgage lending rose from £9.9 billion in February to £11.5 billion in March say the Council of Mortgage Lenders, a 16% increase. Yet lending is 52% lower than March 2008.

First time buyers, people with deposits of only 10% and homeowners with little equity may find their choice is limited.

If you are struggling to find a mortgage or want the latest advice, you can talk to our panel of experts.

How much can you borrow and what sort of deposit will be required?

Is now a good time to buy a fixed rate?

Should you consider trackers or switch to the standard variable rate?

What are the likely fees and is it unwise to add these to the mortgage product?

Where can you find free advice and help?

Paul was joined by:

  • Ray Boulger, senior technical manager at John Charcol
  • Paula John, editor-in-chief of Your Mortgage
  • David Hollingworth, head of communications at London and Country
