Is tourism in poor areas ethical?

There are many parts of the world where tours of the poorer areas are available - but is it the practice ethical?

For many years guided tours have been available of the favelas or shanty towns in Rio de Janeiro, in Brazil.

A charity in the Indian capital, Delhi has been training some street children to become tour guides of the city.

But do these kind of tours offer travellers a cross cultural experience - or is it just voyeurism?

Lyse Doucet speaks to Tricia Barnett, the Director of Tourism Concern and Marcelo Armstrong from Favelas Tours.
