Israeli Deputy PM: 'An apology was offered'

Turkey has threatened to recall its envoy to Israel unless it receives a formal apology over the treatment of its Ambassador.

Israel's Deputy Foreign Minister Danny Ayalon delivered a televised dressing down of the Ambassador on Monday which prompted Turkey to demand the apology. Mr Ayalon later issued a statement conceding his behaviour toward the envoy had been inappropriate.

In an interview for HARDtalk, Israel's Deputy Prime Minister, Dan Meridor insisted that an apology had been offered. He said he hoped relations with Turkey could improve.

The full interview with Dan Meridor will be broadcast on Thursday 14th January 2010.
