Europe outlines plan to boost broadband by 2013


Europe is lagging dangerously behind its economic rivals in the US and the Far East when it comes to broadband technology.

That's according to the European Commission, which is committed to guaranteeing that all 500 million people who live in the EU will have broadband access by 2013. It is part of the European Union's five year plan for the digital economy.

It is a huge undertaking for a region already reeling from a serious debt crisis.

Our Europe Business reporter Ben Shore has been speaking to Neelie Kroes, EU Digital Affairs Commissioner, about the new measures.
