Two men have been arrested in connection with the murder of a 38-year-old man in Londonderry last year.

Convicted drug dealer Jim McConnell was shot by two masked men in his home in Woodland Avenue in February 2009.

The men who have been arrested are aged 42 and 44 and have been taken to Antrim police station for questioning.

The 42-year-old is also being held on suspicion of being a member of a prescribed organisation, believed to be the Irish National Liberation Army.

In October 2009, the Irish National Liberation Army announced that its "armed struggle" was over and said its objective of a "32-county socialist republic" would be best achieved through exclusively peaceful means.
