Eminem tops the bill for Oxegen music festival

Eminem last played the Irish Republic in 2003

US rapper Eminem will top the bill at this year's Oxegen music festival in County Kildare.

The festival, which is Ireland's biggest, takes place between 9 and 11 July at Punchestown racecourse and attracts hundreds of music lovers from Northern Ireland.

The Detroit rapper is headlining the event along with Muse, Kasabian, Jay-Z, Black Eyed Peas, The Prodigy and Florence & The Machine.

Eminem last played in the Irish Republic at Punchestown in 2003.

He pulled out of his last planned gig at Slane Castle in 2005 due to exhaustion.

However, it later transpired that the singer had signed himself into rehab to receive treatment for prescription drug addiction.

Now fully recovered, he recently picked up 'Best Rap Album' and 'Best Rap Performance' awards at the Grammys for his sixth studio album, Relapse.

Other names booked to play the 2010 event include Paolo Nutini, Faithless, Stereophonics, David Guetta, Vampire Weekend, John Mayer, Calvin Harris, Newton Faulkner, Gossip, Temper Trap, Empire Of The Sun, Goldfrapp, La Roux, Wolfmother, Rise Against, The Coral and Broken Social Scene.

Northern Irish band Two Door Cinema Club have also been confirmed in this year's line up.

The indie rock band from Bangor and Donaghadee formed in 2007.

They are signed to French record label Kitsune Music and are due to release their debut album Tourist History later this month.

Ellie Goulding, who won the 'BBC Sound of 2010' winner and also scooped the 'Critics Choice Award' at the Brits, will also be making her Oxygen debut.

Meanwhile, the dance line-up includes superstar DJs Armand Van Helden, Steve Angelo, Simian Mobile Disco, Erol Alkan, Steve Aoki and A Trak And Aeroplane.

More artists are will be added to the billing on 8 March.

Tickets for this year's festival go on sale on 12 March, with a three-day camping ticket costing 224.50 euros.
