Man, 35, held over house killing

Balfour Street
The 26-year-old man had lived in the area for some time

A 26-year-old man has been found murdered in a house in Newtownards, County Down.

The man, who was originally from Poland, was found dead in the Balfour Street area of the town shortly after 2230 BST on Tuesday.

It is understood the man had been living at the house for a number of months. A 35-year-old Polish man has been arrested.

The police have appealed for anyone with information to contact them.

The man has not yet been formally identified.

Councillor Jonathan Bell said the community was "absolutely traumatised".

"People are very much numb, very sad. Our thoughts and prayers are very much with the family.

"But this is a very tightly knit community I've been speaking to this morning. They're hard working families, decent people, are just shocked that this has happened within their own local area."
