Aquarium funding future in doubt

Gordon Adair reports on the future funding of Exploris

The council which runs the Exploris aquarium in Portaferry is looking for new ways to fund it, amid concerns it is costing too much.

The aquarium, one of NI's top tourist attractions, costs Ards Council 750,000 a year to run.

"We are confident we can get partners in the public and private sectors," said councillor Simon Hamilton.

Pat Boaden. of Friends of Exploris, said it "serves a major educational function", and needs to be funded.
