A new four-star hotel is planned for Portrush in County Antrim and will replace one of the town's landmarks.

The new Cloughorr House hotel is to be built on the site of the Golf Links Hotel - which also houses Kelly's Lush nightclub - at a cost of 30m.

The nine acre site will provide a 120 bedroom hotel with spa, creche, leisure complex and 25 residential apartments.

It is thought that demolition work on the present hotel and nightclub will start in three years.

The Kelly family have been involved in the Golf Links Hotel for the past 46 years, but said it was time for change.

Managing Director Peter Wilson said with strong economic growth in the area, they have decided now is the time to make the investment.

"The good news for the local community is the new hotel complex will provide employment of upwards of 100 staff," he said.

Portrush was enjoying a revival in the leisure and tourist industries and hat the new complex would enhance that revival, he added.
