British troops under US command in Afghanistan

Britain's 8,500 troops in Helmand province in Afghanistan will go under the direct control of a US Marine Corps General from today. Major General Gordon Messenger says putting the British troops under the US Marine command in Afghanistan provides the 'best command support to the blokes on the ground' and it will have 'very little impact on the conduct of operations'.
