The stars of the big screen have been out in central London for the Empire Film Awards. Bond girl Olga Kurylenko picked up the best thriller prize for Quantum Of Solace.

Danny Boyle

Slumdog Millionaire director Danny Boyle won an outstanding contribution prize. He said the Empire Awards were special because they gave him his first ever trophy for Shallow Grave 15 years ago.

Gemma Arterton

Gemma Arterton, from St Trinian's and Quantum Of Solace, was named best newcomer. She also announced she was to play Io in the remake of Clash Of The Titans.

Michael Sheen

Frost/Nixon's Michael Sheen presented the best actress award to his friend Helena Bonham Carter, but earlier confessed it "would be fun" to give it to Angelina Jolie as "you don't get to do that every day!"

Bonham Carter made it to the ceremony at the last minute from the set of her Enid Blyton biopic - but she found the time to change into vintage Vivienne Westwood dress.

Terry Gilliam

Director Terry Gilliam left the editing suite for his latest film, The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus, to attend the awards. "Weíre putting the last shots in tomorrow, and thatíll be it," he said.

Joanna Paige

Joanna Page was there to present the Best Sci-Fi award to Wanted. She said she had requested a roller-blading scene for the new series of Gavin and Stacey, which begins filming in June.

Bill Milner and Will Poulter

Bill Milner and Will Poulter received the best comedy gong for Son Of Rambow. Poulter, who is studying for his GCSEs, said: "Itís kind of weird, I was doing science revision this morning and now Iím here."

Viggo Mortensen and Sean Bean

Viggo Mortensen (left) was presented with the Empire Icon award by Sean Bean. The star said fans could expect his forthcoming adaptation of Cormac McCarthy's The Road to be "pretty gruesome".
