Dozens of Israeli soldiers were wounded when a rocket fired from Gaza landed in their base in Zikkim, across the border.
The attack happened in the middle of the night and caught the soldiers while they were sleeping in their tents.
The wounded troops were ferried to hospital by ambulances and military helicopters.
The soldiers were all new recruits who were finishing their training at the base.
Most of the injured suffered only light wounds caused by flying shrapnel, while several were seriously hurt.
It was the single bloodiest rocket attack from Gaza and has increased pressure on the Israeli government to launch a major ground offensive against militants there.
