Valued exposure: MBE

John Lennon is seen here with his wife Yoko Ono

John Lennon is seen here with his wife Yoko Ono on the 25 November 1969 during a press conference held after he returned his MBE to the Queen.

In a note sent to the Queen accompanying the medal, he wrote: "Your Majesty, I am returning this in protest against Britain's involvement in the Nigeria-Biafra thing, against our support of America in Vietnam, and against Cold Turkey slipping down the charts. With love. John Lennon."
