Brain scan shows awareness in vegetative patients

Scientists have been able to question a brain-injured man who was thought to be in a vegetative state, by reading his brain activity.

The research, carried out in Cambridge and Belgium, involved a new brain scanning technique.

Awareness was detected in 3 other patients diagnosed as vegetative.

Medical Correspondent Fergus Walsh has this exclusive report.
