Thomas Haessler
Haessler's inclusion has been a surprise to many people but the 34-year-old has had a fantastic season with his club TSV 1860 Munich in the German league.
He has helped them to an impressive fourth position and a place in the qualifying round for next season's UEFA Champions League.
Arguably the best German player of the 90s and his experience could be crucial to the German cause for the championships.
Won a bronze medal for West Germany at the 1988 Seoul Olympics and made his full international debut against Finland in the same year. Was voted outstanding player of the Euro Championships in 1992 and a broken leg in 1997 almost ended his career.
The 34-year-old won the last of his 97 caps two years ago in the 1998 FIFA World Cup quarter-final against Croatia. Watch out for his free-kicks.
