England's injuries mount
Kevin Keegan
Four of Keegan's squad missed Thursday's training
Kevin Keegan has named four players who are almost certain to miss England's game with Brazil on Saturday.

Keegan says that he will reassess the situation on Friday, but it seems likely that none of the four will be in contention.

Andy Cole
Andy Cole will see a specialist
Andy Cole has been out for some time with a toe injury, but Keegan suggests the Manchester United striker is on the mend: "He hasn't trained for three weeks and now he's going back to the specialist to get the all-clear. I don't think there will be a problem there."

But Cole, whose place in Keegan's final 22 is by no means certain, is not about to risk long-term injury just to make the squad:

"What I have to think about is the long-term. It's not just about Euro 2000. I have United to consider and the start of next season.

Tony Adams
Tony Adams has a back problem
"This tournament is for three weeks and I have to think beyond that. I have to look at it in the right way. I'm taking things day by day and at the moment I'm training and am hopeful about the injury," says Cole.

Tony Adams is also a worry for Keegan: "Tony Adams didn't train, it's not a major problem, he just had a slight problem with his back yesterday.

"I know what Tony Adams can do. I wouldn't be doing my job properly if I risked him in a game when he's not 100 per cent fit.

Jamie Redknapp
Jamie Redknapp's knee is still a concern
"He's not totally ruled out, we'll look at it again tomorrow, but if there's any slight doubt in my mind that I'm taking a risk with him then he'll be ruled out," Keegan told the press.

Meanwhile Jamie Redknapp will see a specialist about his troublesome knee and Steven Gerrard also missed training with a thigh problem.

It seems that most of the England squad have slight problems after a long and exacting season.

And Keegan suggests that even if he did know his favourite 22, injuries would almost certainly affect his final choices: "To try and finalise exactly who you want to play at this stage is impossible until everyone comes through.

"You get through your last day's training and you say, right, I've got every one of these people fit to play, now who do I want to select? It's a long way away."
