Actress Hilary Swank, who won 2005's best actress Oscar, has developed a TV show called Celebrity Charades.

The show, to be shown on US cable channel AMC, sees two teams of celebrities competing in a game of movie-themed charades for charity.

Guests booked for the series include actors Phillip Seymour Hoffman and Hank Azaria, who voices The Simpsons.

As well as playing charades, the celebrities will also be shown having dinner and mingling.

Swank's husband Chad Lowe, the brother of actor Rob Lowe, will take turns hosting the series with actor and director Bob Balaban. Both Chad Lowe and Balaban worked on the show's concept with Swank.

A pilot episode was shot in 2004, filmed at a New York loft apartment with a group of Swank and Lowe's friends.

The stars taking part in the series will be given a chance to talk about their chosen charities.

"We are pleased Hilary, Chad and Bob came to AMC with this project and are very excited about their involvement and creative vision," said AMC's Rob Sorcher.

The UK had its own version of TV charades in the 1970s and 80s called Give Us a Clue.

First broadcast in 1979, it featured celebrity guests including Una Stubbs and Lionel Blair and was hosted by Michael Aspel and Michael Parkinson.
