Rapper and actor DMX has been arrested on three driving charges including speeding, US authorities have said.

DMX, 33, real name Earl Simmons, was stopped on Wednesday on a New York highway after allegedly driving 104mph in a 65mph zone, said state police.

He was also arrested on charges of driving while his licence was suspended and driving an unregistered vehicle.

He was granted bail and will appear in court on 18 January. He pleaded guilty to driving while on drugs last week.

The drugs charge related to an incident in June when he and another man smashed into a gate at New York's Kennedy Airport.

He admitted to being on valium at the time and was sentenced to a conditional discharge.

He was also fined and ordered to forfeit his car.

DMX's lawyer, Murray Richman, said he could not comment on the current case because he had not spoken to his client.

DMX has starred in films including Romeo Must Die and Exit Wounds.

Last year, DMX was arrested for swearing during a concert in the Caribbean islands of St Kitts and Nevis.

In 2002, he was fined $15,000 after he admitted animal cruelty, disorderly conduct and possession of drug paraphernalia.
