Jane Fonda
Jane Fonda is starring in her first film for 15 years
Actress Jane Fonda is to undergo hip replacement surgery after finishing publicity tours for her new film and autobiography, her publicist has said.

Spokeswoman Pat Kingsley said no date had been set for the operation, and the 67-year-old had undergone outpatient treatment on her knee on Thursday.

Fonda stars alongside Jennifer Lopez in Monster-in-Law, out in the US in May, which is her first film since 1990.

An autobiography, My Life So Far, is due for US release next month.

Fonda won two best actress Oscars in the 1970s, for her roles in Klute and Coming Home, while she has been nominated five other times.

The daughter of movie legend Henry, she is well-known for her political activism, earning the nickname "Hanoi Jane" after her controversial visit to North Vietnam in 1972.

During the 1980s she became famous for her fitness videos and books, but she took a break from acting after marrying media mogul Ted Turner. The couple have since divorced.

Her last starring role was in Stanley & Iris, alongside Robert De Niro.
